Toshiba announced updates to their Portable Hard Drive line today with 500GB($150) and 320GB($120) capacities. The Portable Hard Drives are available in red, green, white and blue color options.The most notable feature is greater security and backup functions, improving ease of use and greater customization. These drives now have NTI BackupNow EZ software,a backup solution for Windows OS. This software grants one-touch data backups  and gives the user ability to create a boot disc or even boot directly off the drive itself. It also makes suggestions regarding the security of particular folders and files. These drives are password-protected and also sport a Drive Space Alert that keeps you informed of your current storage capacity.
Mac users, on the other hand, get NTI's Shadow 4 file-based backup software and can schedule incremental backups in a "set it and forget it" environment. This new line of external HDDs also work with Apple's Time Machine right out of the box, giving hese users a healthy amount of extra storage. For those worried about data security on-the-go, Toshiba covers its bases with an extra password-protected, 256-bit encryption.
