Page 4 of 5 We should warn ignorant ones to grab a chair before reading the following sentence. When we are talking about AMD, max-clock is 4208.10 MHz. Disbelief on your faces is caused by famous French overclocker “Before“, and obtained frequency was done on Athlon64 FX-57 (San Diego) processor (default 2800 MHz). Grab a chair a little bit harder. Max-clock of INTEL processor is unbelievable 8179.89 MHz performed by „ThuG OC Team“ from Italy. On Pentium 4 631 (Cedar Mill) processor (default 3000 MHz). Calculate yourselves overclock percentage! Some of the world’s records can be seen in the table.

Extreme processor overclocks require extreme voltages, consequently extreme cooling. However, if you are thinking that complete story comes down only to relation maxclock-voltage-cooling, you are wrong. As we have already mentioned, fine adjustment of BIOS, art of adjusting operating system, selecting quality hardware specimen; all of this for better score in benchmark apps, is story for itself. Knowledge of basic laws of chemistry, electro technique, physics, mechanic and thermodynamics is also required! Of course, for purpose of certain procedures in extreme overclocking, knowledge in aforementioned sciences exceeds elementary. It all started with individuals, but recently teams are more and more popular.
