Page 4 of 6 Samsung announced that will not give up on UMPC (Ultra Mobile PC) and confirmed the announcement with the presentation of the next model after Q1 UMPC, Q1 Ultra. Although it was expected under the name Q2, Q1 Ultra brings 7-inch WSVGA touch sensitive display and low-voltage Pentium M processor on 800MHz, 60GB HD and 1GB of memory. Q1 Ultra comes with Vista Home Premium operative system and offers QWERTY keyboard divided in two along both sides of Q1 Ultra.
Although new Samsung UMPC catches attention with its design, recommended price around 1200EUR does not give us confidence that UMPC will be popular on market. Asus answer is called T83, and also comes with 7-inch display. However, unlike Samsung, Asus chose VIA C7-M low-voltage processor on 1GHz, with 512MB RAM and 30GB hard disk. T83 has integrated GPS, camera, WLAN and Bluetooth, while the recommended price is below 1000EUR.
Samsung presented 30-inch monitor which uses LED back lighting and offers 3000:1 dynamic contrast, 2ms response time and viewing angle of 170 degrees. Monitor brings HDCP support, and has top picture quality. Except this monitor, Samsung also represented SyncMaster 940UX which uses USB port.
Along with the earlier presented XG Station enabling the usage of the desktop graphic cards on the notebook computers, Asus presented sound card which should jeopardize Creative sound cards. Asus Xonar D2 card is based on ADI chip and brings support for all Dolby Digital and DTS standards, and Asus plans to offer PCI and PCIe versions. We cannot discuss the quality yet, but we found out that Asus has big plans, which is good because it is about time someone shakes the sleepy Creative and make them to at least write the better drivers for their products.
Zalman repeated the presentation of Stereoscopic 3D monitors which should appear on the market with the price around 400EUR for 19-inch model with standard resolution of 1280x1024. The idea is not new since Zalman tries to simulate ''real 3D" using additional glasses and specialized monitors, the viewing angle for 3D is about 10 degrees vertical and 90 degrees horizontal.
Although Zalman offer seems interesting, we are not optimistic about its popularity.
American OCZ had the most innovative products on the whole fair. During past few months they worked on NIA (Neural Impulse Actuator) product which enables the players to use brain waves, eye movement and face muscles in order to control the favorite game without keyboard, speeding up the commands for 30%. Although we were skeptical before the demonstration, we saw that the technology is very good (taken from medical research) and can be used in games like UT 2004 we tried. After the calibration and the introduction of the software, you need a little time to get used to the playing without keyboard, and all you need besides the connection with sensors on your head is the mouse for directing your character. Actuator is expected on the market by the end of this year at the price around 300USD.
The second product from OCZ which pleasantly surprised us is HydroJet hybrid cooler with carbon base and the combination of water and air cooling, with no need for additional pump or pipes. Thanks to the better conductance of the carbon base comparing to copper and WayCool heat transmission technology conducting the heat from the carbon base with the fan of 6 sides drain. The final version should have smaller dimensions and the aluminum should be used instead of copper (with no influence on the cooling performance due to the usage of the carbon base and WayCool technology).
Our friends from Cooler Master also had several interesting products for this year CeBIT. We should mention Real Power Pro PSU with 850 and 1000W versions bringing dual 8-pin PCIe connectors and new solutions from CoolViva series which has active and passive cooling that can be used in a number of graphic cards. Besides, Cooler Master presented Mars 2 CPU cooler which now has small 60mm fan with massive copper structure and four pipes for hot air. Cooler Master’s booth was visited many times by reporters and fair visitors in order to get to know girls from Belgrade who were working as promoters so we simply have to give them ‘A’ for whole presentation.
